Stop the Comparison Game

Do you feel left out? Do you feel slighted?  Do you feel like the world is just passing you by? STOP!

Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” This is so true. We all get caught up in the comparison game. Why would you want to compare yourself to others? Why not stop and look at what you have and start with being grateful? Grateful you woke up this morning; grateful for the breath you breath every moment; grateful for sun, air, water, roof, clothing, etc.?

The person next to you may have a life that looks great – but what did they have to do to get it? What were their struggles? What were their wins? They didn’t just wake up that way. They worked hard to achieve what they have. Would you want to go through what they did? Or should I say – could you have gone through what they did? Are you that determined?

I find that many people think that life is just unfair to them. Instead of working hard to achieve what they want, they think it’s just supposed to happen. The only thing that happens is – well – LIFE. Life happens. How you respond to it makes all the difference in the world.

Stop feeling sorry for yourself. Stand tall, dust yourself off, and get where YOU want to be. Stop thinking others will get you there. Yes – it is great to have a team to work with, but you must do your part. Stop letting life pass you by and start appreciating the life you have. This is hard to hear for many and most have probably stopped reading by now. For those of you who are still with me – there is help for you. Find a personal coach, mentor, pastor, or friend to help you through the difficult times.

Think about how you define success and start putting a plan together to get there. Your definition of success if different than those around you, so STOP comparing!
