An International Standard Book Number (ISBN) is a 13-digit unique identifier for your work in each of its forms: e-book, audio book, softcover, hardcover, etc. Having one means you can track and leverage reviews across all platforms and distributors.

You can purchase a single ISBN or a block of ten or more from Bowker. They also have more information about ISBNs and their registration on the purchase page.

A copyright can help to protect your work. At OPP, we recommend obtaining your copyright once you have finalized your book and are ready for publication. This is something that can be easily acquired by a tech savvy author.

According to the U.S. Copyright Office, “Copyright exists from the moment the work is created. You will have to register, however, if you wish to bring a lawsuit for infringement of a U.S. work.”

You can register your work at the Copyright Office website. Or Open Pages Publishing can help you.
